Capoeira Angola Center Serbia

Capoeira Angola Center Serbia, as a part of Capoeira Angola Center of Mestre João Grande, represents Brazilian folklore and culture in Serbia, through Capoeira Angola. It consists of two groups, one in Belgrade and other in Novi Sad. The group is led by Contra-Mestre Marquinho, a disciple of one of the greatest masters of capoeira, Mestre João Grande. Also, our goal is to promote sport in Serbian youth as a healthy way of living. Up to date, we hosted many workshops with Contra-Mestre Marquinho, amongs which also the International Capoeira Angola Workshop - Belgrade 2004, with Mestre João Grande, and many participants from Brazil, Italy, Germany, Spain, Finland, USA and Croatia.

In order to promote Capoeira in Serbia, we have staged numerous presentations and also an open lecture about Capoeira Angola, held by Contra-Mestre Marquinho at Faculty of Philosophy in Novi Sad. Some of the presentations were organized by our group, whereas others by various organisations. We held presentational Rodas on the streets of Belgrade and Novi Sad, on television and in museums. Capoeira Angola Center Serbia, in Belgrade and Novi Sad, is the only Capoeira Angola group in Serbia, dedicated to learning Capoeira Angola as taught by Mestre João Grande, one of Mestre Pastinha's disciples.

Children

Our work is also dedicated to promoting sportmanship, especially with younger generations. Organised by "Youth for United World" ("Mladi za Ujedinjeni svet"), in October 2006. we held open classes of Capoeira Angola for school children. "Sport for peace" was the slogan for this manifestation, located in Kucura near Vrbas, Serbia. On that occasion, around thirty children had the opportunity to see and experience Capoeira Angola.

Group in Novi Sad annualy attends "Sport and ecology camp" ("Sportsko-ekološki kamp") in Begečka jama organised by "Košnica" organisation for children of Dečje selo in Sremska Kamenica, giving open Capoeira Angola classes, where children learn Capoeira Angola movements, and also playing and singing Capoeira music.
